Dr. Carr’s presentation changed my entire perspective on African American people. Through his words I learned many things about African Americans that I never knew before from previous history classes. Our people were doing great things before the Greeks or Romans. They were the first people to read, write, and to speak. African Americans didn’t start off with slavery. The world’s most aged artifacts came from Africa. Many people overlook Africa as a whole, though most of what we learned has come from Africa. Africa is my home and deep down it is the creator of your ancestors, who reflect on you. We all need to realize as a race that we are not a majority and we have to stand up for who we are. I believe that society doesn’t properly explain African culture, history, and universal influence simply because it was so detrimental to social development. If someone honestly took time to look back upon historical events and think about life, they would probably start at European influence, that is so apparent in today’s society. A person of African descent should be able to find their self deep within the roots of Africa. The world’s oldest evidence of human remains was found in Africa. If scientists and biologists can support the idea that every cell has to be reproduced by another cell through chemical reactions, then this idea leads into the larger idea that every human was created from another. Dr. Carr kept me in seminar the entire class period. He has such a passion that it almost like he brings you into the discussion in the front of the class.
